1. Our National Debt

We must face the stark reality of our unsustainable federal debt, stop adding to the nation's unfunded liabilities, and have an open and honest discussion of how to get out from under this mountain of debt, before it is too late. Our nation's fate is at stake.

2. Smaller Government

The 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution must be restored to its proper prominence as part of the Bill of Rights. As our Founders designed it, the People must be restored to their rightful place at the top of our tripartite system, with the federal and state governments playing their vital, but limited, supporting roles.

3. The Tax System

The federal income tax system is far too complex, too bloated with special interest perks and exceptions, and inherently unfair. I would consider supporting a flat tax or a national sales tax as a replacement for, but not in addition to, the current income tax system.

4. Health Care

The recently passed health insurance reform bill is a nightmare that should never have been allowed to pass. It is, quite simply, a takeover of the nation's health care system by the federal government. We trusted Joe Courtney to protect our freedom and individual liberty. Joe Courtney betrayed our trust by voting for Obamacare.

5. Financial Regulation

We should consolidate the numerous federal agencies that oversee financial instruments, and establish simple, smart and effective regulations and oversight procedures. The federal government needs to stop encouraging financial institutions to violate basic market principals with promises that governmental bail-outs will reward any failures.

6. Gun Ownership

The law abiding citizens of this country have been endowed with the inalienable right, protected by the U.S. Constitution, to responsibly possess and carry the weapon of their choice for the protection of life, liberty and country - period.

7. Climate Change Legislation

Our country should not prostrate itself to the United Nations or to developing countries to the tune of trillions of dollars with economy-destroying cap and trade legislation or carbon reduction treaties.

8. Energy Policy

We must develop safe, clean and abundant alternative fuels. But until renewable energy sources are abundant enough to satisfy the country's growing demand, we must vigorously develop domestic oil, gas and coal resources. Domestic energy exploration, production and consumption should be determined by market forces, not politicians, movie stars or foreign academics.

9. National Security

We must vigorously support our troops and our domestic law enforcement in their courageous efforts to keep us safe against foreign armies, and terrorists at home and abroad.

10. Foreign Policy

The United States should reaffirm our support for, and allegiance with, democracies like Israel, Poland, Georgia and Honduras. We must oppose dictatorships like Cuba, Iran and Venezuela, and keep them from ever obtaining nuclear weapons.

11. Immigration

We must secure our borders first. We should make legal immigration much easier and illegal immigration much harder.
