Doug Dubitsky for Congress

Condemnation of Submarine Defense Cuts

Chaplin, CT- Doug Dubitsky, Republican candidate for Congress in Connecticut's 2nd district, issued a strong statement today condemning the newly announced proposal to massively cut submarine construction.

Doug Dubitsky, Republican candidate for Congress in Connecticut's 2nd district, strongly condemns the newly announced proposal to massively cut submarine construction.

The proposed cuts were recently announced by House Financial Services Chairman Barney Frank (D-Mass.) and the "Sustainable Defense Task Force" in a report titled, Debt, Deficits and Defense - A Way Forward.

The proposed cuts would remove 57 ships from the U.S. fleet, including the elimination of eight of the Navy's planned 14 ballistic missile submarines and all four guided missile submarines, as well as cutting the number of tactical submarines in half. That means rolling back the proposed two submarines per year to only one.

"Such cuts would have a devastating long-term affect on the economy of Eastern Connecticut which relies heavily on the Naval Submarine Base at Groton/New London," Dubitsky said. "The proposal to slash submarine procurement would mean the loss of thousands of jobs in this district, including many high-paying union jobs," he warned.

"In the face of growing conventional and nuclear threats around the world, America must maintain its strong military defenses." Dubitsky added. He called upon all members of Congress to reject such attempts to slash submarine procurement.

In a sweeping retreat from the country's long-standing national security policy, ominously named a, "Policy of Restraint", the task force proposal would cut over $1 trillion from every branch of the U.S. Military. "Drastically cutting our military is the wrong way to offset the Democrats' reckless spending-spree being pushed by Joe Courtney and Barack Obama," Dubitsky said.

Also under the proposal, the Army would be cut by over 200,000 active duty soldiers, the Marine Corps would be cut by 30%, the Navy's 12 planned aircraft carriers would be reduced to eight, no new destroyers would be built, the new DDG-1000 destroyer program would be cancelled, six of the Air Force's fighter air wings would be cut and 301 fewer F-35 fighters would be procured.

"Cutting submarine production during this recession and in the midst of two wars to pay for the Democrats' unconstitutional expansion of federal dependency programs is a recipe for disaster for the 2nd district and for our nation," Dubitsky warned.

A Regular Working Man - NOT a Typical Politician

FARMER'S SENSIBILITIES / LAWYER'S SKILLS

WHO I AM: I'm a lawyer experienced in advocating for the people and businesses of Connecticut. I review, interpret, analyze and apply laws and legislation on a daily basis. I have also done so as a legislative aide for Republicans at the state level.

I have worked at one of the biggest law firms in the country and some of the biggest law firms in Connecticut. So I can stand toe to toe with entrenched lawmakers and advocate for the working people of this district.

I also run a small farm where my wife and I raise grass-fed beef. I grow my own hay, fix my own fences, and rebuild my own tractors. In my life, I have had many different jobs. I have built buildings, dug ditches, driven trucks installed insulation, flipped burgers and waited tables. Like the people of this district, I know what it means to work hard to support a family and pay the bills.

I will never look down on you, nor speak down to you. Nor will I ever deceive myself into believing that I know better than you how you should spend your money, raise your children, or run your lives. And I will fight the government's attempts to make these decisions for you.

    WHY I'M RUNNING FOR CONGRESS:

Bring the People back to their rightful place at the top of a tripartite system, with the People, personal freedom and individual liberty on top, and the federal and state governments playing their vital, but limited, supporting roles.

Reduce government spending and stop adding to the nation's unfunded liabilities before the national debt bubble explodes in our children's faces.

Make the government listen to the People who are screaming loud and clear: Stop spending our children into bankruptcy! Stop confiscating our money to create more permanent dependency programs that force us into an unsustainable reliance on ever-growing government entitlements.

Joe Courtney has chosen government over the People. He has chosen an entitlement society over the rights and liberties of the People of this district. We must defeat that agenda in November.

Replace the elitists and yes-men in Congress with regular working people - housewives, plumbers, farmers, etc. - so we can make our own decisions.

Congress' disrespect for the People is surely changing this country, but not for the better. Please help me stop them, before it's too late.

IN THE AMERICA I BELIEVE IN:

The federal government has no power to force its citizens to buy any given product or service.

We each make our own decisions as to how and when and where we will see a doctor.

Federal regulations are easy to understand, simple to follow, and inexpensive to enforce.

Taxes are low and fair. The government must operate under a balanced budget.

Our borders are secure. Legal immigration would be encouraged to keep our country prospering.

Domestic energy exploration, production and consumption are determined by market forces, not by movie stars and foreign academics motivated by politically-influenced research funding.

We stand with democracies like Israel, Poland, Georgia and Honduras, and we don't bow to dictatorships like Cuba, Iran, and Venezuela.

al-Qaeda soldiers captured on foreign battlefields are not afforded the rights of US citizens and are not tried in civilian courts.

Every American is judged by his or her individual character, conduct and abilities, not by stereotypical group proclivities.

Focusing on individual liberty and limited government, we can get rid of the elitists and yes-men like Joe Courtney who would replace the America we believe in with a debilitating social experiment that has failed around the globe every time it has been tried. I will work hard to restore the America we believe in, but I need your help.

JOE COURTNEY HAS BETRAYED OUR FREEDOM

We trusted Joe Courtney to protect our freedom and he betrayed our trust. Instead of working tirelessly to preserve the unique liberties our Founding Fathers sacrificed their lives and fortunes to give us, Joe Courtney and his supermajority act like they know better what is best for the People who live and work and die in this country. They act like We the People are stupid; as though we cannot be trusted to make our own decisions. We don't need paternalistic politicians protecting us "little people" from ourselves. We need to be left alone to make our own decisions.

THE NANNY-STATE SUPERMAJORITY MUST BE DEFEATED IN NOVEMBER

I will not stand by while our freedoms are dismantled by those we trusted to protect them. Joe Courtney and his supermajority must be replaced in November. United, We the People can begin to reverse the unconstitutional expansion of federal power and the erosion of personal liberties this Congress is forcing upon us. If you trust me to represent you, I will fight against the deterioration of our republic into a European-type dependency society. I need your help to get to Washington.
